With the record number of 29,300 visitors in 2017, the Luxembourg City Film Festival has firmly established itself as the nation’s leading cinema event. Supported by the Ministry of Culture and the City of Luxembourg, the festival is committed to presenting a vast high-quality panorama of contemporary fiction and documentary films, special screenings and an extensive young audience programme.
One of the pillars of the Luxembourg City Film Festival is the young audiences programme, attracting school classes and young festival goers (aged 3-18) with screenings, workshops and events. The festival has established a reputation for its selection of socially engaged films about the modern world’s complexities – the festival team believes that film, as a medium, uniquely manages to address societal questions. In its school programme, the festival is proud to feature THE BREADWINNER (by Nora Twomey), a critically acclaimed Luxembourgish co-production vying for the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature. As each school screening, this one will be followed by expert talks.
Beyond films, LuxFilmFest has the core mission to educate young participants about production processes and professional opportunities in the cinema sector through workshops and exchanges with industry professionals. In 2018, young audiences can expect a masterclass with renowned French composer Bruno Coulais (CORALINE, WHITE FANG), a workshop series on film analysis with the example of the LORD OF THE RINGS trilogy with Hollywood Reporter critic Boyd von Hoeij, and exchanges with teams of films in production, notably with Argentinian director Juan Antin on his upcoming film PACHAMAMA.
