Nobody will deny the importance of film festivals in showcasing the diversity of today’s children’s film production. But what significance do film festivals have for the industry and the distribution process – what problems and opportunities might occur?
Those matters will be on the table in the ECFA seminar organised by the Schlingel festival (Chemnitz, Germany) as a part of the festival’s Industry Forum.
Particularly in the children’s film sector, festivals permanently guarantee the circulation of films across borders. The dialogue and cooperation between the international young audience festivals and the industry representatives are thus becoming increasingly important.
The IFF Schlingel Industry Forum (7-9th October, including the ‘Coming Soon’ section) has established itself as one of the most comprehensive networking platforms for the international children’s film industry, perfectly placed for hosting a seminar that explicitly addresses the industry. Participants will be invited into an intensive exchange of ideas in the form of case studies and (net)working groups. Are film festivals becoming the main players in the marketing of children’s films or are they rather taking over the place of ‘regular’ theatrical exploitation? And how do they affect the financing of film projects or the work of World Sales agencies.
You are invited to engage in this intensive dialogue with regional, national and international experts. Alongside the Forum, the IFF Schlingel will screen more than 250 feature, animated and short titles during its 24th edition.
For ECFA members attending the Forum, Schlingel will cover the costs for accreditation and two overnight stays in one of the festival hotels. For ECFA members planning to prolong their stay, ECFA can cover the cost of one more overnight stay. Participation in this event is limited to 60 people.
