Dutch Features spreads magic

Dutch Features Global Entertainment is delighted to add a few new family productions to their catalogue. They are particularly proud about one new friend of the company, a rebel fairy ready to spread her magic all around.

Through their ‘Family’ label, world sales and distribution company Dutch Features is renowned for its expertise in young audience entertainment. They now feel encouraged by the first acclaim of their magical family feature SIHJA THE REBEL FAIRY by Marja Pyykkö (Finland). An outrageous young fairy makes friends with 11 year old Alfred. Together they uncover a mysterious environmental threat intent upon spreading across the city and destroying the natural world. We asked Dutch Features’ Fulko Kuindersma what makes him so excited about this new release.

Kuindersma: “This magical adventure bristles with attitude. Sihja is a maverick fairy who doesn’t always respect human rules or politeness. Instead, she’s a tiny force of nature, keen on having fun with her shy friend in an unfamiliar urban setting. Alfred and Sihja don’t conform to typical gender stereotypes and are great role models for children who might see themselves as ‘different’ from what is often expected by society. Our two heroes just want to be themselves as they grow up, curious to explore the world around them.

Environmental themes are a key part to the story. Kuindersma: “This element resonates strongly with young audiences around the world. They’re well aware of current environmental issues and keen to see change coming from older generations. This message is powered by a great story, and plenty of fun and magical action.

SIHJA THE REBEL FAIRY (a Tuffi Films production) had its world premiere at the BUFF festival in Malmö – where main actress Elina Patrakka was chosen as one of this year’s Nordic Stars – before traveling to the Leeds Young Film Festival (UK), Giffoni Film Festival (Italy) and BIKY Busan Int’l Kids & Youth Festival (South Korea). International sales are being handled by Dutch Features. Kuindersma: “Hopefully, SIHJA THE REBEL FAIRY will continue to share its maverick fairy magic with family audiences throughout 2021 and beyond.
