At the very last moment, the 14th edition of the Filem’on Festival for Young Audiences (Brussels) had to change its course drastically. Everything was done to recreate a virtual festival feeling. Handing out ECFA awards in all three categories, Filem’On was excited to announce the 2020 festival laureates!

MY LITTLE SISTER awarded in Schlingel
Under specific circumstances, the Schlingel festival still managed to welcome 13,000 visitors inside local cinemas. An online platform was set up for international juries. One of them was the ECFA jury, giving the award to the Russian film MY LITTLE SISTER by Alexander Galibin.

Giffoni celebrates 50th anniversary with Winter Edition
What a horrible year to celebrate a 50th festival edition! To make up for all cancelled festivities, the Giffoni festival launched a special Winter Edition – completely digital – dedicated mainly to children and their families.

ECFA saves new date for AGM during Zlin Film Festival
At the end of the year 2020, ECFA President Margret Albers sent her best wishes in a letter to all ECFA members, proudly stating that “despite all setbacks, you managed to produce, distribute and screen quality films for the young audience. Thanks to your persistence no member festival was cancelled! Either stationary, hybrid or online, they all took place!”

How did we experience one year of hybrid festivals and what lessons did we learn? And how much did we miss our old festival habits?
CIFEJ elects new board and president
On November 28, a new board committee was elected in an online voting by 55 members of CIFEJ, international interest group for children’s film. Congratulations to newly elected president Jitendra Mishra and the board members, among them are some well-known ECFA personalities.
