At the Oulu International Children’s & Youth Film Festival, the ECFA Jury awarded the Swedish film UP IN THE SKY by director Petter Lennstrand, “a film containing strong humour that is absurd and not too polite,” according to the jury.
Due to her parents’ neglect, 8-year-old Pottan has to spend her summer holidays at a recycling yard. Sounds rather sad… until Pottan meets the yard’s bizarre residents: a bunch of life-sized puppets with great plans and ambitions. That’s how Pottan becomes part of a secret space mission! The ECFA Jury: “A fascinating debut with a playful art direction. In a burlesque setting, funny and heart-warming characters are taking us on a fantastic journey, from a scrapyard straight into space.” “I’m really happy and honoured receiving this ECFA Award, and so are the many people that were involved in making this film,” stated director Petter Lennstrand.
The Oulu ECFA Jury were Fabian Driehorst (producer, Germany), Danckert Monrad-Krohn (festival director, Kristiansand) and Jarno Mällinen (musician, author & journalist, Oulu).
