Synopsis:
Plans to build a new road through the traditional Dutch village of Lente threaten the peace of mind of a community that is desperately anxious to retain its very comfortable status quo.

If the project is realised, the village would lose the windmill, its symbol for many years. It will lose its heart - the locals are never short of something to do or somebody to visit. But more
importantly, many poor farmers will have to uproot and leave, among them the very ill Marieke who lives with her mother. They have only just settled in the village, convinced that their future
comfort was guaranteed.

Twin sisters Sietse and Hielke Klinkhamer are friends of the pair and are increasingly worried about the situation. Marieke’s illness is so severe that the only place she can receive treatment is in a specialised Swiss clinic - but her mother does not have the money to pay for this.

So the twins plan to raise enough money to pay for Marieke’s treatment. At the same time, together with their father and the people of the village, they fight to prevent the destruction of their village. But will they succeed on either front?
