Synopsis:
12-year-old Neneh, who comes from a loving family in a disadvantaged area, dreams of attending the ballet school at Opera de Paris. It only accepts the most promising children from the whole of France, but Neneh’s raw talent guarantees her one of the coveted seven spaces available. But as she starts training, and despite her best efforts, it becomes clear that as a Black student Neneh is treated differently by her fellow pupils and the school’s teachers, prompting her to question her future there. Oumy Bruni-Garrel steals the show as Neneh, a precocious talent forced to confront some truths about herself and the world at large, in a riveting family drama that will have you rooting for this contemporary Billy Elliot.
